BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Chris Seidel

President

Chris Seidel serves as president of the Friends' board of directors.  He has an extensive business background in the management of not-for-profit organizations and has been instrumental with the Friends in establishing a formal strategic plan, a strategic communications plan and a web site devoted specifically to the Friends.  "I am in favor of anything that can be done to promote reading, learning and literacy; the Friends of the Palm Springs Library does just that!

Jim Hicks

Vice President

Jim Hicks is a Palm Springs native, and has served as Vice President for the last four years.  He has helped with various organizational tasks, including revising our bylaws. He joined the board “as a way to pay back for all the wonderful years I’ve had browsing the Palm Springs Library stacks.”

Mike Thompson

Treasurer

Mike Thompson is a long-time volunteer for the library.  He helps with the book sorting and sales, and has served as Treasurer of the Board for the last four years.  He says that Libraries have always been an important part of his life.  He would very much like to see the Palm Springs Library continue to improve.

Barbara Stanford

Membership

Barbara Stanford is currently serving as Membership Chair.  A long-time library patron, she maintains the contact information for member mailings and notifications, both by regular mail and by email.  Recently, the Membership Committee has been exploring methods by which we can reach out to our community and increase our membership.  We encourage you to "tell a friend" about our Friends group and invite them to join us in our upcoming activities.  Also, please feel free to contact Barbara directly info@friendsofthepalmspringslibrary.org to advise of any address, email or telephone number changes.

Cathy Brant

Secretary

Cathy Brant is currently serving as Secretary and is working on the newsletter. She has always used the library, “first doing term papers in high school then helping my English students do theirs. I now enjoy searching for new books to read, both in the library and online.”

Evelyn Berry

Evelyn Berry has always found books to be among her best friends; as a child stories read by her Mother; books from her hometown library for many years, and more recently ebooks on line from the Palm Springs Library – she considers books a major part of her life and wishes to give back through involvement in the Friends.

LeeOna Hostrop

LeeOna Hostrop has loved libraries since she received her first library card at age six, and wants to pay back for years of enjoyment.  She has served on the board for the last ten years.  Her primary interest has been organizing the annual book sales.  Her dedication to the Friends has made these sales very successful and they have become our main fundraisers.

Richard Ellis

Book Sales

Richard Ellis joined the Board because “from a very young age I've found reading and libraries have provided me with a great deal of enjoyment and comfort in life, and I really believe the library to be a center of any community, so volunteering with the Friends just seemed a natural fit for me.”  Before working with the Friends, he organized the Desert Hospital book sales - he was instrumental in making them very successful.  For the past four years, he has worked with us in the same capacity.

Sheila Grattan

As a writer and strategist - marketing to public policy- library research in the stacks or on line has been a big part of Sheila's academic and professional life. Like many others tethered to a computer and Google search, her life-long relationship to brick and mortar libraries has changed in this digital age.

She believes that involvement with Friends of the Palm Springs Library is a way to play a small part in supporting the library as it moves through this challenging transitional period, straddling traditional services, while adjusting to evolving technology, the changing needs of its customers and institutional space with new community potential.

Nancy Morrison

I have loved books since I was a child and the bookmobile would come every two weeks.  Reading is the key to knowledge and being able to read well makes everything in life easier.  I would like everyone to benefit from the joys of reading and all the library has to offer.  It is a delightful place!
