Learn about the fascinating history and origin of the bas-relief terra cotta sculpture panels "Palm Springs in Sculpture – Past & Future" created by sculptor Lawrence Tenney Stevens (1896-1972), a part-time resident of Palm Springs. The panels were dedicated on September 18, 1959 when the south branch of the Security First National Bank (now Union Bank – 500 S. Indian Canyon Dr.) opened. The lecture will also touch on this mid-century bank and its Chinese American Architect Joseph A. Wong (1921-2011).
Lecturer David L. Gray, Principal with Gray Public Relations & Marketing, is a former Palm Springs Public Library Trustee (2009-2016), and recipient of the 2014 Outstanding Community Service Leader Award from the Desert Business Association. He has a B.S. degree in Art History & English from Atlantic Union College, and has lived in Palm Springs since 2003.
Also present will be John Faubion, Director of the Lawrence Tenney Stevens Trust.
