The Friends of the Palm Springs Library are excited that the Legacy Wall has come to Palm Springs and will be at the Palm Springs Public Library Nov. 12 – 23, 2019. During the time the exhibit will be at the Library, students from across the Coachella Valley will be visiting and participating in education activities at the Library. In celebration of this fantastic event, you and a guest are invited to attend a reception to meet the Executive Director of the Legacy Project, Victor Salvo, and to see the Legacy Wall in the Library. We also want to take this opportunity for you to meet the Board members for both the Friends of the Palm Springs Library and the Library Foundation. Light refreshments will be served.
The Legacy Wall features LGBTQ people throughout history, who have contributed in over 20 distinct fields, from every walk of life, from over 30 countries, spanning 4,000 years. The content is international and multicultural, and has been substantially vetted and sourced. This wonderfully positive and inspiring exhibit tells the stories behind such figures as Social Justice pioneer Jane Addams; Civil Rights organizer Bayard Rustin; British mathematician Alan Turing; U.S. Congresswoman Barbara Jordan; Astronaut Sally Ride; Renaissance artist and inventor Leonardo DaVinci; Transgender icons Sylvia Rivera and Marsha P. Johnson; Mexican Artist Frida Kahlo; and Fr. Mychal Judge (the “Saint of 9/11”) – with over 125 digitally interactive “mini-biographies” in all.
